Lauren Gibson homered for the United States but it was not enough as Yuki Hayashi went 2 for 4 with three RBI’s as Japan beat the U.S. 6-3 to win the gold medal.

The win by the Japanese ended the United States long reign in the international tournament.

Japan beat the U.S. for the second time in as many days and now has a streak of three in a row having also won in the 2012 gold-medal game.

Danica Patrick on the pole for the 55th running of the Daytona 500; first female to achieve feat

Race car driver Danica Patrick is used to making history on the track.

She was the first woman to lead laps at the Indianapolis 500 in 2009 finishing third and to win a motor sport event in the IndyCar in Japan in 2008.

Her most recent “first” is winning the Daytona 500 pole winner last week. By doing so, she became the first woman to grab the top spot for any race in NASCAR’s top circuit.

Patrick captured the pole with a lap at 196.434 mph around the historic Daytona International Speedway track. Only Jeff Gordon came the closest to taking her spot by being the only other driver to top 196 mph.

Patrick dives the #10 Chevrolet SS.

The previous highest qualifier in a Cup race for a female, was 1977 when Janet Guthrie started ninth at both Bristol and Talladega.

This is good news to Patrick’s long-line of followers, who have seen her struggle in three NASCAR seasons. Her best finish in 10 Sprint Cup races is 17th and she has only one to-five finish in the Nationwide Series where she finished 10th in the standings in 2012.
