The Ladies Professional Golfers Association (LPGA) has been notified by the Chinese that the golf tournament scheduled for September 29-October 2 in China has been canceled.

The tour said it received notice from the China Golf Association on Monday that the event, scheduled in the Guangdong province Imperial Springs Golf Club, was not going to take place.

The tournament was originally scheduled for August but was postponed to give the title sponsor and tournament organizers more time to clear up issues and add additional sponsors.

This the second time the LPGA Tour has had to cancel an event in 2011.

Earlier in the season, the tour had to cancel the Tres Marias Championship in Morelia, Mexico due to concerns over fears of drug violence.

The LPGA has had several years of  an evaporating schedule. It used to have as many as 36 events. This year they had 25 events scheduled but will end up with 23. The tour used to come to Ohio four times a year in Toledo, Columbus, Youngstown and Dayton. Now Toledo is the only stop. This year, however the Jamie Farr Classic did not take place due to the same organizers had to put on the U.S. Senior Open and could not put on two events in the same month.
