HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS: Northland in auto-drive cruises past Columbus West

Game report from Prescott Belmont

Everybody that is connected with the Columbus City League always roots for one another when they don’t have to play each other.

This is especially in the OHSAA Tournament when all schools play in different divsions.

In this case, they would be rooting for Columbus West who ended the season at 0-21, to at least one win.

But on Wednesday night, the Cowboys were matched up against the Kingpins of the City League, the Northland Vikings.

No disrespect to the Vikings, but you just knew that West would be outmanned.

The Vikings took care of business as usual, 103-49 in the Division I game at Marysville High School.

West ends another disappointing season at 0-22. Micheal Redd, one of the top basketball players in the school’s history, has to be shaking his head.

The Vikings, 21-1 on the season, were led by the big three, Jordan Potts, Jalen Robinson and Devon Scott all combined for 62 points, outscoring West by themselves.

But occasionally, they will play against each other.

If that fails here’s another option, go to the HIGH SCHOOL BOUNCE page in the upper right hand corner, click it and scroll down to the February 18 game and click listen and the game comes up there. We’ll be on the air 10 minutes before the game with our usual information.

The South Division champion Walnut Ridge comes into the game at 18-0 and winning their second division title in a row. They want revenge after losing to Northland last year in the City title game also on HIGH SCHOOL BOUNCE.

The Scots are led by head coach Jason Bates and feature a tall lineup of Kai Turner, Allasane Kah, Malik Dime and Roy Alexander.

Northland Vikings

The Northland Vikings under new coach Sean Taylor continued to roll this season and are 18-1 overall on the season. The only blemish was losing to Huntington Prep of West Virginia.

The Vikings have continued to be the kingpin in the City League North, winning an incredible 87 games in a row dating to February of 2006.

Northland features three division I recruits, Jalen Robinson (Dayton), Devon Scott (Dayton) and Jordan Potts (Greensboro). But they also have Ke’Chaun Lewis, Armani Towns and a solid bench.

The game is sold out at Columbus East High School as all 1,200 seats were gone in just a few hours.

This game should be a high-scoring, slam-dunking affair!

HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS: Northland wins 84th North Division game in a row; routs Linden 120-51

Game report from Joel Van Gundy

It’s hard to believe that the Northland Vikings haven’t lost a City League North Division game since February 2006. They also haven’t lost to a South Division team since 2005.

The streak continued on Tuesday night as the Vikings entertained their fans with a 120-51 win over the Linden-McKinley Panthers.

The usual players led the way, Jordan Potts scored 25 with Jalen Robinson adding 20 and Devon Scott chipped in with 14.

Add in Ke’chaun Lewis’ 20 points and it shows that Sean Taylor’s team is more than just the three beforementioned seniors.

The Vikings are 14-1 overall, 11-0 in the North Division and seems headed for another City League championship game.

The game was a rout from the beginning as the Vikings led 28-16 at the end of the first quarter and 58-31 at the half. The lead grew to 85-43 after 3 quarters and the Vikings coasted home to the win.

Patrick Ngene-Igwe led the Panthers with 16 points as the team falls to 3-13, 0-8 in the North Division.
