Brazil trying to land IndyCar race for 2015

There have been rumors floating around for weeks that the IndyCar Series is trying to set up a race in Brazil for 2015.

In the past few days, officials at IndyCar has said that they are exploring a return to Brazil. The event would take place in the federal capital of Brasilia.

Brazilian officials are hoping to convince the IndyCar Series to return from 2015 to 2019.

The federal district government announced that the potential race would be held at Autodromo Nelson Piquet.

The Nelson Piquet race track has a 12-turn, 3.4 mile layout.

Rahal team chooses Jourdain Jr. to drive in Indy 500

Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing will be fielding a car in the most-famous race in the world, the Indianapolis 500.

Michel Jourdain Jr. will be driving the number-30 Dallara for RLL in the May 27 race as a teammate to Takuma Sato, who is driving on a full-time basis for Rahal in the IndyCar Series.

Jourdain has won races in Montreal and Milwaukee with Bobby Rahal in 2003.

Tagliani chosen to drive for Herta in IndyCar Series

The new driver for Bryan Herta Autosport is Alex Tagliani for the 2012 IndyCar Series.

Herta’s team won the 2011 Indy 500 with the late Dan Wheldon as the driver.

Tagliani finished 14th in points last season and won poles at Indianapolis and Texas while driving for Sam Schmidt Motorsports.

Tagliani has never won an IndyCar race and his career-best finish is fourth.

IndyCar gets ready for season-ending championship finale in Vegas

The IndyCar Series is getting ready for the season finale later today (Sunday) at Las Vegas Motor Speedway with Dario Franchitti dueling Will Power for the championship.

Both drivers will be starting from the same row, but back in the field.

Tony Kanaan will lead the 34-car field after posting a speed of 222.078 mph to earn the top position.

In her swan song to the IRL, Danica Patrick will start ninth before heading off to NASCAR in 2012.

Franchitti, who holds an 18-point lead over Power in the series standings, will start 18th in the Las Vegas Indy 300 presented by Honda.

Detroit welcomes back IndyCar for 2012

The Motor City of Detroit welcomes back open-wheel racing.

The IndyCar Series will be returning to Detroit’s Belle Isle Park on June 3, 2012.

It’ll be the first open-wheel race in the city since 2008.

The Grand-Am, Cadillac V and Indy Lights series races will also be on the weekend card.

Detroit businessman and team owner Roger Penske also announced that his company will dedicate $6 million to improve the 2.1-mile race course in the city’s largest park. The improvements should make for a semi-permanent road course.

General Motors Company’s Chevrolet division is committed to sponsor the race for three years.

Chevy has also unveiled a twin-turbo V6 engine that will power teams fielded by Penske, Panther Racing and Andretti Autosport.

The new engine by GM is it’s first on the open-wheel circuit since 2005, will have competition from Honda and Lotus starting in 2012.
