Much-traveled pitching ace Zack Greinke has joined a very select group of pitchers who have struck out at least 200 batters for two or more teams in one season.

The right-handed ace joined Randy Johnson, Earl Wilson, Gaylord Perry, Bert Blyleven, Rick Sutcliffe, David Cone, Mark Langston and Frank Viola from many years ago.

Blyleven did it two times in 1976 with the Twins and Rangers totaling 219 K’s and in 1985 with the Indians and Twins totaling 206.

Most recent pitchers prior to 2012 joining the select group includes C.C. Sabathia in 2008 with 251 strikeouts with the Indians and Brewers, 2010 Dan Haren with Arizona and the Angels, 216 K’s.

In becoming the 11th pitcher to join the group, Greinke struckout 200 batters for the Brewers and Angels.

Radio, TV reports say Reds, Ludwick agree to 2-year deal pending physical

There are reports on radio, television and the internet reporting that the Cincinnati Reds and outfielder Ryan Ludwick have agreed to a two-year, $15-million deal pending completion of a physical.

Ludwick signed a bargain-basement one-year, $2-million contract with Cincinnati in 2012 and emerged as the club’s regular left fielder and one of its most potent hitters to go along with Brandon Phillips, Joey Votto, Jay Bruce and Todd Frazier.

After struggling with the San Diego Padres and Pittsburgh Pirates in 2011, the 34-year-old Ludwick, had a bounce-back season in 2012 where he hit .275 with 26 home runs and 80 RBIs to help Cincinnati win the National League Central Division title.

He has played 10 Major League seasons with the Rangers, Indians, Cardinals, Padres, Pirates and Reds and is a .263 career hitter with 143 homers, 530 runs batted in and 850 base hits.

Phillips’ appeal for inside-the-park homer denied by MLB

Brandon Phillips, the Cincinnati Reds talented second baseman felt that he had an inside-the-park homer on Monday night in his team’s 10-9 loss at Cleveland. He felt so strongly, he appealed to MLB.

However, the opinion that counts the most, Major League Baseball, says no!

Phillips’ and his agent’s appeal to Major League Baseball for a scoring change was denied on Wednesday. MLB allows appeals of scoring changes, but a player has to do it through his agent.

In the fifth inning of Monday’s 10-9 loss to the Indians, Phillips lined a ball down the left-field line that was misplayed by Johnny Damon and led to Phillips scoring on the play.

The official scorer ruled the play an RBI double for Phillips, with an error on Damon. Phillips and the Reds felt he should have been credited with an inside-the-park home run.

Phillips is not mad, he said “losing the game is more important to him.”
