A. J. Foyt, the first four-time winner of the Indianapolis 500, will drive the Chevrolet Camero Convertible Pace Car at the 100th Anniversary race (tomorrow) Sunday, May 29 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Foyt’s first Indy 500 win, in 1961. Foyt also won as a driver in 1964, 1967 and 1977 and as a team owner in 1999 with Kenny Brack behind the wheel.

The 100th Anniversary Indianapolis 500, “The Most Important Race in History,” starts at noon (ET) Sunday, May 29. Live coverage will begin at 11 a.m. on ABC and the IMS Radio Network/XM 94-Sirius 212.

Equipped with a 400-horsepower V-8 engine and six-speed automatic transmission, the Chevrolet Camaro Convertible Pace Car will lead the 33-car racing field. The color combination is similar to the design used on the 1969 Camaro Indianapolis 500 Pace Car replicas; cars which have become among the most popular Camaros in the collector world.

Jewel was born in Payson, Utah. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Homer, Alaska. She spent most of her younger years living with her father in Homer. Their home did not have indoor plumbing but instead an outhouse.

Jewel and he father when they had the chance earned a living by singing in bars and taverns.

Jewel learned how to play the guitar at Interlochen, Michigan Arts Academy and she learned how to write songs at age 16.

She lived in her van for awhile as she traveled the country playing street performances and small concerts.

Jewel was discovered by John Hogan, the lead singer from the local San Diego, California band Rust, told his manager Inga Vainshtein about Jewel’s talents. Vainshtein showed up at the Interchange coffee shop with a representative from Atlantic Records and the rest is history.
