OHSAA FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS: Hilliard Davidson 47 Columbus Northland 6

Alex Mickley scored three touchdowns for Hilliard Davidson, the defending Division I state champions, went to 11-0 this season with a first round pounding of Columbus Northland at the Hilliard Davidson Athletic Complex.

The Wildcats didn’t allow the Vikings, who were making their first playoff appearance, to record a first down in the first half of play, while scoring touchdowns on their first five possessions.

Davidson kicker J.D. Decker kicked a 58-yard field goal for the fourth-longest field goal in Ohio High School Athletic Association history.

Northland, co-champions of the City North Division with Beechcroft, scored on a 27-yard touchdown run by J.J. Saunders in the fourth quarter.

HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS: Spielman Classic ready to go

The third Spielman Gridiron Classic with five games, including three this weekend is ready to go.

The games are: Westerville North at Worthington Kilbourne, 7 p.m. Friday; Hilliard Bradley at Dublin Scioto, 7:30 p.m. Friday; Westerville South at Groveport, 7:30 p.m. Saturday; Hilliard Darby at Dublin Jerome, 7 p.m. September 3, and Brookhaven at Hilliard Davidson, 7:30 p.m. September 3.

Proceeds from the games will benefit the Central Ohio Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research.

Stefanie Spielman, wife of former Ohio State and NFL All-Pro Linebacker Chris Spielman was an aggressive leader and champion of breast cancer research. She died in November 2009 at age 42.
