LPGA Jamie Farr Classic to go on hiatus in 2011

compiled from staff and LPGA news

LPGA and tournament officials in Toledo, Ohio have announced that the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic will take a year off in 2011 before returning for at least three more years.

LPGA commissioner Michael Whan made the announcement at a dinner earlier this week before this year’s Farr Classic began.

Whan says the tournament will take the year off because its organizers will also be running the U.S. Senior Open in Toledo in July 2011. The organizers had concerns whether it would be economically viable to put together two major golf tournaments in the area at the same time.

Commissioner Whan says the LPGA has signed a contract to continue the Jamie Farr Classic in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

The 26th Jamie Farr Classic begins Thursday, July 1 at Highland Meadows Golf Club in suburban Toledo.
