Former Notre Dame & NFL QB Kiel dies at 50

Former Notre Dame quarterback Blair Kiel died Sunday night in Columbus, Indiana.

Kiel was also a punter in the NFL for Tampa Bay, Indianapolis and Green Bay.

Kiel was just 50 years old. The cause of death has not been determined.

Kiel played for the Fighting Irish from 1980 to 1983 and in the NFL from 1984 to 1991.

His nephew, Gunner Kiel, is a freshman quarterback at Notre Dame.

Kiel’s NFL stats look this way, 108-193 passing attempts for 56 percent completion, 75.4% passing rating, 1,296 yards, 8 touchdowns and 7 interceptions.

Top QB prospect Kiel chooses Notre Dame

The nation’s top quarterback recruit, Gunner Kiel has decided to attend Notre Dame and play for head coach Brian Kelly.

Last year, Kiel said that he would go to Indiana, where his brother played and recently verbally committed to LSU.

Many scouting services has rated Kiel as the top QB recruit in the nation.

In 2011 at Columbus East High School in Indiana, he passed for 2,517 yards, 28 touchdowns and rushed for 428 yards and 11 scores.

In his career, he threw for over 7,175 yards.

Five-star QB Kiel having second thoughts about Indiana; will continue visits

Gunner Kiel, one of the nation’s top high school quarterbacks is starting to have second thoughts about his decision to commit to Indiana University.

The five-star signal-caller from Columbus, Indiana East High School had committed to the Hoosiers in July.

Reports around the internet have say that Kiel has told Indiana head coach Kevin Wilson last week that he was rescinding his commitment to Indiana and will visit other schools.

The 6’4, 220-pounder is keeping Indiana as one of his schools, but wants other options.
