The home-and-home Trillium Cup competition between the two clubs, refers to the official flower of the province of Ontario and official wildflower of the State of Ohio, is awarded annually to the winner of the season series between the geographic rivals. The Crew, who have won the Cup in its first two years, 2008 and 2009, is unbeaten against Toronto FC since the club’s inception in 2007, compiling a record of 4-0-5 in nine games against the Reds.

Saturday’s game was played during perfect weather conditions for late March, sunny, breezy and 51 degrees before 13, 356 fans at 11-year-old Crew Stadium. The Crew sent everybody home happy with a win over Toronto FC, 2-0.

The Crew went ahead in the 29th minute. Andy Iro was 7 yards in front of the goal when he received a free kick from Guillermo Barros Schelotto that was started from the right sideline. Iro headed the ball toward the left post and the ball bounced once before crossing the goal line.

The Crew added an insurance goal in the 87th minute when Schelotto put the ball into and open net after goalkeeper Stefan Frei collided with Crew defender Danny O’Rourke on the edge of the penalty area.
