The Lambeau Field faithful won’t see their favorite wide receiver around anymore.

Free agent RB Cedric Benson visits Packers

After four productive seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, Cedric Benson was not re-signed. There were several reasons, but Benson did not like Jay Gruden’s pass-happy offense. But still, Benson was able to rush for over a 1,000 yards.

But since last season, Benson has been without a contract or any offers. Things are about to change.

The running back has been visiting with the Green Bay Packers, a team that needs depth at the position.

Benson’s agent, Eugene Parker has confirmed that his client has visited Green Bay but gave not indication a deal was signed.

ESPNĀ  reported on Friday that Benson was about to sign a contract.

LIBERTY BOWL preview: Cincinnati, Vanderbilt hookup today at 3:30 PM ET on ABC in Memphis

The Cincinnati Bearcats (9-3) takes on the Vanderbilt Commodores (6-6) in the December 31 Liberty Bowl.

This is the 53rd edition of the Memphis bowl.

The Bearcats have a load of talent led by their quarterbacks Zach Collaros, if he is recovered from an ankle injury, Munchie Legaux and Isaiah Pead, the all-Big East running back.

One of the reasons for the Bearcats turnaround-season was a much-improved defense which was steady enough despite a series of key injuries and an inexperienced secondary and an overhauled defensive line that came up with 35 sacks in a nine-game period. Cincy is among the nation’s leaders in turnover margin.

New Vanderbilt head coach James Franklin came and changed a losing culture into a winning atmosphere and did just that.

Vandy is playing in just its fifth game in its history.

The Commodores rallied back from back-to-back 2-10 records to 6-6.

Vanderbilt’s QB is Jordan Rodgers, brother of Green Bay Packers star Aaron Rodgers.

Packers Hall of Famer Gregg has Parkinson’s disease

Forrest Gregg (SMU photo)

Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame offensive lineman Forrest Gregg came out publicly recently that he has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

The 78-year-old who lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado, says he made his illness public so to promote understanding of the disease and push for more research.

Gregg’s family and neurologist says that his disease might be attributed to the numerous concussions he suffered while playing at Southern Methodist, the Packers and Dallas Cowboys from 1956-1971.

Gregg also was a successful coach with the Cleveland Browns, Packers and Cincinnati Bengals. He led the Bengals to the Super Bowl after the 1981 season against the San Francisco 49ers.
