22-year-old Rory McIlroy has added another piece of silverware to his trophy cabinet after his famous tee shot at the tenth hole en route to victory in the United States Open Championship was voted by fans as The European Tour Shot of the Month for June.

McIlroy joins the other monthly winners of 2011, Paul Casey in January, Alvaro Quiros for February, David Horsley in March, Matteo Manassero in April and Luke Donald in May.

McIlroy of Northern Ireland had a superb six iron at the 214-yard par three on the final day was inches away from a hole-in-one after the ball pitched five yards beyond the pin before trickling back towards the cup.

The shot was met with a raucous reception on the green and the fans of My European Tour have also given it their approval as it received two thirds of the votes pulled.

The winners of each Shot of the Month will be put forward for the European Tour Shot of the Year, won last season by Graeme McDowell for his unforgetable birdie putt on the 16th green of The Celtic Manor Resort which helped Europe regain The Ryder Cup.
