The Bowling Green State University Falcons behind Scott Thomas’ 19 points and nine rebounds, defeated the Ohio Bobcats at home, 73-61 on William Frack Night.

The Mid-American Conference foes have the same overall record at 8-10, but BGSU is 3-1 in the conference and Ohio is 1-3.

D.J. Cooper scored 18 points and Nick Kellogg from DeSales added 13 for the Bobcats, who committed 17 turnovers.

The night was to honor longtime Bowling Green men’s basketball fan William Frack, who feels that BGSU can become a mid-major powerhouse like Butler and Gonzaga if they had the funds to do so.

Frack announced on Wednesday night that he was setting up a $10 million endowment that will help the Bowling Green program to be more competitive nationally with coaches’ salaries, bringing in big-name teams to the northwest Ohio campus for nonconference games and improving the strength and conditioning program.

The program will receive the money in segments through a foundation upon Frack’s death. He is 75-years-old.

The endowment is the largest ever to Bowling Green and the largest in Mid-American Conference history to a men’s or women’s basketball team.

There is an interesting human interest twist to this game involving Mark Lyons, Tu Holloway and Albany University.

Weather-related flight cancellations forced the Great Danes to travel by bus to Cincinnati, Ohio. Showing the holiday spirit, Albany offered Lyons, from nearby Schenectady, New York and Tu Holloway, from Hempstead, New York, a ride on the bus. Lyons was able to ride with the Great Danes but Holloway couldn’t get to Albany to be able to take them up on the offer.

Holloway, did arrive at the Cintas Center, home of the Musketeers, just in time for the 2 p.m.

All five Musketeers starters scored in double figures led by Kenny Frease for 17 points, 9 rebounds, Jamel McLean had a double-double had 15 points and 11 rebounds and Dante Jackson put in 14 points.

Xavier moves to 25-8 while Minnesota falls to 21-14.

Gonzaga let an 18 point lead slip through its hands, but held off Florida State last night. The Zags advance to Sunday’s second round to play Syracuse.

Gonzaga built up a 39-21 lead due to excellent offensive execution and superb defense. But Florida State started to chip away at the lead on the hot-shooting of sub Deividas Dulkys.
