Germans unseat China’s run of titles in men’s diving

Germany has halted China’s run of championships at the world swimming championships.

In Barcelona, Spain the German pair of Sascha Klein and Patrick Hausding won the gold medal in the men’s synchronized 10-meter platform.

That win by Germany ended the three consecutive title run by China in the tournament.

U.S. Men’s team defeats Germany 4-3 at RFK Stadium

In a game commemorating the 100th anniversary of the United States Soccer Federation, the U.S. Men’s team defeated a second-string Germany team 4-3 Sunday afternoon at Washington, D.C.’s RFK Stadium.

Clint Dempsey scored two goals in the second half to lead the Americans. With those two goals, the 30-year-old has scored 36 goals moving him into second place on the U.S. career scoring list.

USA teammate Jozy Altidore scored his first his first international goal in 1 1/2 years.



U.S. Women’s Soccer team led to victory by Ohai

The United States won the women’s under-20 World Cup in soccer for the third time, as the defeated defending champion Germany 1-0.

The hero was Kealia Ohai who scored the lone goal in the 44th minute of play.

MASON, OHIO — In every tennis tournament, there will be upsets.

On Friday at the Lindner Family Tennis Center, there was one in the women’s quarterfinals.

Germany’s Angelique Kerber, the 5th seed, took Serena Williams out of her game, winning 6-4, 6-4 in the day’s first action.

Williams has had a fantastic 2012 season, with a 19-match winning streak, 36 wins in her last 37 matches and has won titles in Charleston, Madrid, Wimbledon, Stanford and Olympics.

But on Friday, Kerber had an answer for everything Serena sent her way.
