University of Dayton new men’s basketball coach Archie Miller has announced that Vee Sanford, a former sophomore at Georgetown University, is transferring from Dayton. Sanford had announced his intentions to choose Dayton following his campus visit on May 18, but the University could not make any announcements until after he signed his financial aid agreement.

A 6-foot-3 guard from Lexington, Kentucky, Sanford will have two seasons of eligibility remaining after sitting out the 2011-12 season due to NCAA transfer rules.

Playing for the Hoyas, Sanford played in 27 games in both his freshman and sophomore years. Averaging 6.6 minutes a game this past season, he averaged 2.4 points and shot .522 from the field,.600 from three-point range and 1.000 from the free throw line.

At Lexington Catholic High School, Sanford averaged 22.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.4 assists a game as a senior and was selected First Team All-Kentucky by the Louisville Courier-Journal. A McDonald’s All-American nominee, he was ranked 30th nationally by Scout.com for point guards. Sanford completed his high school career by playing in the Kentucky/Indiana All-Stars Basketball Classic.

The Dayton Flyers will return three starters from last year’s 22-14 team that reached the championship game of the Atlantic 10 Conference tournament. The Flyers reached the post-season for the fourth straight season, playing in the NIT.
