The University of Dayton has selected one of the top young assistant coaches in college basketball today to its new basketball coach, naming Ryan “Archie” Miller.

The 32-year-old Miller comes to Dayton from the University of Arizona where as Associate Head Coach he helped the Wildcats to a 30-8 season that ended with an Elite Eight berth. Miller succeeds Brian Gregory, who was named head coach at Georgia Tech last week.

Miller has a recent connection to two teams that just missed the Final Four this season. Prior to the last two years at Arizona, he was at Ohio State for two seasons.

Miller is the 19th coach in Dayton history, and just the sixth Flyer coach in the last 64 years. The others include Tom Blackburn, Don Donoher, Jim O’Brien, Oliver Purnell and Brian Gregory.

Miller will be taking over a UD team which enjoyed its fourth straight 20-win season in 2010-11. Dayton will return three starters-Chris Johnson, Paul Williams and Josh Benson-from the team that was 22-14 and played in the NIT after reaching the championship game of the Atlantic 10 tournament.
