As expected, Pittsburgh Penguins fire Dan Bylsma

Dan Bylsma is a good NHL coach. He’s a Stanley Cup winning coach with 252 career wins.

But in the end, those facts did not allow him to keep his job with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

It was rumored by several members of the Pittsburgh media during the recent playoff series with the Columbus Blue Jackets that Bylsma could or would lose his job. Management did not like the fact that the Blue Jackets caused all kind of havoc to make the Penguins scuffle to win the series in six games. The the loss to the Rangers in the next series after having a commanding lead left a bad taste in the mouth.

The 252 games won with the Penguins is a franchise record.

But the fact that he could not win another Stanley Cup with players like Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Kris Letang, James Neal and Brooks Orpik was unacceptable to management.

Since winning the Stanley Cup in 2009, Pittsburgh lost series to lower-seeded teams and ended up with 4-5 playoff series record.

The past few months have been difficult for the 43-year-old Bylsma. He coached Team USA in the Sochi Olympics back in February would could not win a medal.
