Kentucky Wildcats lose 5 to the NBA Draft

compiled by megasportsnews.com staff

When John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins, Eric Bledsoe and Daniel Orton enrolled at the University of Kentucky, they wanted to return the basketball program to the national spotlight.

They accomplished that and now the national spotlight will fall on them in the NBA.

On Wednesday, those four plus junior forward Patrick Patterson pulled a mass exodus and entered the upcoming NBA draft.

John Calipari (UK)

Wall and Cousins are expected to be among the first few players selected after leading Kentucky to a remarkable turnaround season in John Calipari’s first season on the job.

The Wildcats went 35-3 this season, winning the Southeastern Conference regular season and conference tournament titles before losing to West Virginia in the regional finals of the NCAA Tournament.

Players have until May 8 to change their minds, as long as they don’t hire an agent. However, it’s highly unlikely any of the five players will come back for another season with the Wildcats.

There is no question that John Wall, who was the SEC player of the year after averaging 16.6 points, 6.5 assists and 4.3 rebounds while providing highlight reel plays everytime he handled the ball.

If all 5 of the players leave, Coach Calipari will be faced with a rebuilding project on the same level with the one he inherited a year ago. Those departures combined with the graduation of Ramon Harris, Perry Stevenson and Mark Krebs leaves Kentucky with just five players returning next year, only three of whom, guards DeAndre Liggins and Darnell Dodson and forward Darius Miller, played significant minutes during the just completed season.

Kentucky already has commitments from center Enes Kanter and Stacey Poole and are one of several schools in the hunt land guard Brandon Knight.
