F1 driver de Villota had more surgery; status moved from critical list

Formula One test driver, Maria de Villota, who lost her eye after crashing during a team practice, had more facial surgery on Friday.

She is no longer in critical condition.

De Villota was involved in her first official test with the Marussia team on Tuesday of this past week, when she ran into a support truck in a straight-line exercise at an airfield in England.

Beckham fails to make British Olympic soccer team

David Beckham has done a lot of great things for his native England.

He was a star in the English Premier League, Manchester United and Real Madrid and he helped London secure the 2012 Olympic games which will be coming up next month.

Did his country repay him?

No, they didn’t!

The former England captain failed to make the British Olympic soccer team, which is a surprise to everyone all around the world.

The 37-year-old LA Galaxy star says, “I’ll still be the biggest supporter of the team!”

Westwood leads Nordea Masters event by three shots

England’s Lee Westwood shot a 4-under-par 68 to maintain a three-stroke lead after the third round of the Nordea Masters in Bro, Sweden.

The 39-year-old Westwood is 16-under-par 200.

Ross Fisher, another native of England, is in second place at 13 under in the PGA European Tour event.

Englishman Chapman wins Senior PGA Championship event in Michigan

Roger Chapman, born in Kenya but grew up in England, won the Senior PGA Championship in Benton Harbor, Michigan.

The 53-year-old, who turned pro in 1981, now has four professional wins, held on for a two-shot win after leading with a very comfortable lead throughout the final round on Sunday in the Champions Tour event.

Chapman bogeyed three of the last five holes and shot a 1-over 72 to beat John Cook.

Chapman finished at 13-under 271; Cook ended at 11 under after a 69.

Lee Westwood rejoining PGA Tour

Lee Westwood will be re-joining the PGA Tour.

It will be the first time the English star has taken up PGA Tour membership since the 2008 season. The move requires Westwood to compete in 15 tournaments, which includes the four majors and World Golf Championships.

The 38-year-old, who is from Worksop, Nottinghamshire, England, has 35 pro wins.

Westwood started the 2011 season at #1 in the golfing world but since has slipped to third.

He says he’ll start his 2012 American schedule at the Match Play Championship in Arizona, which will count towards PGA & European Tours.
