British-born Elizabeth Taylor, who became a famous and glamorous American movie queen, whose every movement and actions made headlines, died Wednesday of congestive heart failure at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

She was 79.

Taylor’s career saw her act for more than six decades, winning two Oscars and more than 50 films. She had the opportunity to perform alongside some of history’s most famous male actors: Marlon Brando, Montgomery Clift, Spencer Tracy and Richard Burton, whom she married twice.

Speaking of marriage, Ms. Taylor was married eight times, to seven husbands. Starting in 1950, she married Conrad Hilton, Michael Wilding, Mike Todd, Eddie Fisher, Richard Burton, John Warner and Larry Fortensky.

All of her marriages made headlines, but the one to actor Eddie Fisher was the most scandalous. Taylor was married to husband #3 Mike Todd when on March 22, 1958, he was killed in a plane crash in New Mexico, leaving her a widow at the young age of 26. Following the tragedy, Fisher, the singer idol who was Todd’s best friend, was married to the popular Debbie Reynolds, spent long hours and days consoling the bereaved Taylor. The bereavement turned into a very scandalous romance between the two. Fisher broke up with Reynolds and married Taylor in 1959. It was probably the only time in Taylor’s life that fans, movie producers, fellow actors, actresses and media were upset with her for causing the breakup in Reynolds’ marriage.

Not only did she marriage rich and famous men, she dated many as well, Frank Sinatra, Henry Kissinger and Malcolm Forbes to name a few.

Radio and Television reports have stated that she suffered from more than 70 illnesses, injuries and accidents. Since 2004, she had heart and spine problems that left her in constant pain. Taylor also struggled with alcohol and prescription painkillers.

She was also a businesswoman. In 1987, she introduced the perfume, Passion. In the 1990′s, Taylor introduced the scent, White Diamonds.
