HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS: Centennial holds off Wellington School of Columbus

The Centennial Stars of the Columbus City League played a non-conference game against Division IV Wellington Jaguars on Saturday afternoon.

The Stars took control early at 14-9 in the opening quarter and led 31-25 at the half.

Centennial then took full control in the third quarter leading 52-38 and held on in the fourth as the Jaguars put up 23 points but fell short.

The Stars won 69-61.

Elias “Boo” Osborne scored 19 points, Eric Wilson added 16 and Keenan Smith chipped in with 12 to lead Centennial who improves to 12-6.

Wellington, who drops to 9-7, was led in scoring by Tyler Sharp with 25 points.

There was a high-scoring game Tuesday night between the Centennial Stars and the Beechcroft Cougars at Centennial High School on Bethel Road.

The Stars were slightly better on the night, winning a City North Division battle, 81-75.

Elias “Boo” Osborne scored 23 of his 25 points in the second half and dished out 10 assists to the lead the Stars.

Centennial is 10-3 overall, 7-2 in the North with losses to Northland and Brookhaven.

Beechcroft is a disappointing 3-8, 3-6.

The Stars always get several free throw opportunities in a game and last night was no exception. Centennial went 26 of 30 at the charity stripe and Osborne alone was 11-of-12.

The Centennial Stars and the East High Tigers played back in December at East and the game was a run-and-gun affair with the visitors winning 93-88.

The rematch was last Friday night at Centennial and the score was not as high as before, but high enough with Centennial winning 74-69.

Elias “Boo” Osborne led the way for the Stars with 24 points in a City North win.

The Stars are 9-3, 6-2 while East drops to 5-8, 3-5.

East, who has a lot of firepower, were led by Denzel Lipson with 25 points.

HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS: Brookhaven surprises Centennial in overtime, 66-65

The Brookhaven Bearcats beat the number-2 team in the City North Division race, the Centennial Stars on Friday night, 66-65 in overtime.

Ronnie Williams connected on two free throws with 25 seconds left in OT to lead the Bearcats to a City North win.

Brookhaven is now 6-4 overall, 5-1 in the North.

Centennial falls to 7-3, 4-2 in the North.

Williams scored 11 points on the night but six were in the extra quarter.

Brookhaven allowed a 10 point lead to slip away in the fourth quarter which led to the overtime quarter.

Kevin Greenhow led the Bearcats with 18 points.

The Stars were led by their two-best players, Elias “Boo” Osborne and Keenan Smith who scored 19 points apiece.

The Centennial Stars basketball team placed all starters in double figures scoring in a 93-88 City League North Division win over the East Tigers.

The Tigers stayed in the game behind the scoring of Denzel Lipson, who had a season-high 40 points and 19 from James Davis.

Lipson’s 40 points is Central Ohio area high for men’s basketball.

Elias “Boo” Osborne led the way for Centennial with a triple-double of 27 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds.

Conrad Stephens and Keenan Smith supported Osborne with 15 points apiece.
