The area’s two stingiest defenses got together last weekend at Upper Arlington High School’s Marv Moorehead Stadium and the crowd was not disappointed.

The Division I regional final pitted Hilliard Davidson against Pickerington Central.

Pickerington Central came into the game allowing 4.3 points per game, while Davidson’s was at 5.5 per game.

The sellout crowd saw Hilliard Davidson prevail in a 13-6 win.

Pickerington Central was driving for the tying touchdown in the last seconds as a pass to Notre Dame recruit Eilar Hardy was tipped away from Davidson defenders and the drive stalled at the Davidson 32-yard-line as the next play ended in a sack with time expired.

The 13-0 Davidson Wildcats will play in the state semifinal against Huber Heights Wayne who is also 10-3 this Saturday.

The Tigers could not recover from several penalties and two interceptions.

OHSAA FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS: Pickerington Central stops Westerville South’s running attack to advance

The Pickerington Central-Westerville South was another of those matchups in the playoffs where there was a star player(s) that needed to be stopped in order to win the game.

In this matchup, the star player was Westerville South’s Jayshon Jackson, who had 2,400 yards coming into the game and was the target of the Central defense.

Jackson did get 103 yards rushing in the game, but Central did not allow him to get 200-plus like he has in several games this season. Their defensive effort led to a 30-0 win over South in a Division I regional semifinal at Gahanna.

The key play of the game happened on the opening kickoff as Eilar Hardy, the Notre Dame recruit, took it back 98-yards to the Wildcats 1-yard line and the rout was on.

OHSAA FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS: Pickerington Central beats Troy

Larry Jones contributed to this story

Top-seeded Pickerington Central beat the Troy Trojans Saturday night, 24-8.

The Tigers were led by Notre Dame recruit Eilar Hardy who has had an injury-filled season. His sprained right ankle caused him to miss two games and play sparingly in a couple of others.

Hardy scored on offense, a 37-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and on defense, a 36-yard interception return for a touchdown.

The Tigers move to 10-0 while Troy ends the season at 8-3.
