Duron Carter, Nate Montana, sons of former NFL stars getting a shot at pro football

The NFL is giving the sons of Chris Carter and Joe Montana a shot to become stars in the league where their dads starred.

Duron Carter, an undrafted 6-foot-5, 205-pound wide receiver and son of 2013 Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Chris Carter, has signed a contract with the Minnesota Vikings.

Chris Carter played 15 years in the NFL as a possession receiver.

Joe Montana’s son, Nate Montana, also a quarterback, has been invited to the San Francisco 49ers upcoming rookie camp. The 23-year-old had a good showing earlier in April at the team’s local pro day.

Joe Montana played 17 years in the NFL.


Duron Carter, former OSU WR ready to play for Alabama

Former Ohio State wide receiver and junior college transfer Duron Carter is officially a member of the Alabama Crimson Tide football team.

The son of NFL and Ohio State star Cris Carter, joined Alabama for the first time in practices this past week after issues over a transcript was resolved.

Carter played as a freshman at Ohio State in 2009 and caught 13 passes for 176 yards and 1 touchdown.

But he was ruled academically ineligible that season and missed the Rose Bowl. Carter after sitting out spring practice in 2010, left Ohio State in June of that year for Coffeyville Community College in Kansas.

Former Ohio State receiver Duron Carter, son of the former Buckeye & NFL star Cris Carter, plans to play at Alabama. He’ll enroll in June and will be eligible to play next season.

Carter played his freshman season at Ohio State in 2009 and had 13 catches for 176 yards and a touchdown but was ruled academically ineligible that season and missed the Rose Bowl.

Carter also sat out spring practice the next year because of continuing academic problems and left the Buckeyes program last June for Coffeyville (Kansas) Community College.

Wide Receiver Duron Carter has left the Ohio State football program and has enrolled at a community college in Kansas.

Carter is the son of former Ohio State and NFL star Cris Carter. He has had academic problems and was declared ineligible for the Rose Bowl when the semester grades were released this past December.

Head coach Jim Tressel announced his departure on Monday.

Carter caught 13 passes for 176 yards as a freshman in 2009. He has enrolled at Coffeyville (Kansas) Community College.

Coach Tressel and Ohio State also announced on Monday that defensive end Keith Wells will not be a part of the team in 2010. No reason was given to the press. Wells saw limited action for the Buckeyes as a freshman in 2008 and was redshirted in 2009.
