Two Ohio State football players, who have been projected as starters for the 2012 football season, have been arrested by police in the central Ohio village of Shawnee Hills on a charge of obstructing official business.

Tight end Jake Stoneburner and offensive lineman Jack Mewhort were arrested around 2:30 a.m. by the Shawnee Hills police. Reports say that the two were allegedly urinating between buildings near the Bogey Inn. They ended up running from the cops and hid between cars. Another man, Austin Barnard, was arrested. He is not an OSU football player.

Reports have stated that the  Delaware County Sheriff’s Office said that the players have been released after posting $2,000 bond.

Considered to be leaders on this year’s team, Stoneburner, is a senior from Dublin and Mewhort is a junior from Toledo.

No word as of yet from Ohio State if any suspensions are forthcoming.

Ohio State junior tight end Jake Stoneburner was named to the midseason watch list for the John Mackey Award, given annually to the nation’s top tight end by the Nassau (N.Y.) County Sports Commission. He is one of 25 players under consideration for the award and one of only four from the Big Ten Conference, Northwestern’s Drake Dunsmore, Wisconsin’s Jacob Pederson and Nebraska’s Kyler Reed.

The 2011 recipient of “The Mackey” will be announced at the Home Deport ESPNU College Football Awards Red Carpet Show December 8, 2011 on ESPNU.

Stoneburner, a fourth-year junior from the Columbus, Ohio suburb of Dublin and a family resource management major, leads the Buckeyes with 12 receptions for 150 yards and six touchdowns. He caught his sixth TD pass Saturday against Illinois, a 17-yarder from Braxton Miller that was the only completion on the day for Ohio State in its 17-7 win over the 16th-ranked and previously unbeaten Illini.

Earlier this season against the Akron Zips, Stoneburner became the first tight end in modern Ohio State history to catch three touchdowns in a game. Bob Grimes caught four TD passes against Washington State in a 1952 game. He is listed as an end in Ohio State’s media guides for 1950-1952, but he was actually a tight end.
