Cincinnati beats Villanova; gains first, second round bye in Big East tourney

With its 72-68 win over the weekend over Villanova, the Cincinnati Bearcats clinched one of four double-byes in this week’s Big East conference tournament at Madison Square Garden in New York.

The Bearcats next game will be on Thursday.

Yancy Gates scored 16 points and Dion Dixon 14 to lead the UC attack.

During the game, Gates became the seventh player in UC history to reach 1,400 career points and 850 career rebounds.

UC improves to 22-9, 12-6 in the conference, while the Wildcats drop to 12-18, 5-13.

Cincinnati rallies to beat Georgia, 57-51

The Cincinnati Bearcats rallied from an 11-point deficit and defeated Georgia, 57-51 in the Big East-SEC Challenge.

Sean Kilpatrick scored 22 points and Dion Dixon chipped in with 19 for the Bearcats who go to 5-2 on the season in playing its first road game of the year.

Georgia drops to 4-4.

Cincinnati gets buried at #4 Syracuse

The Cincinnati Bearcats trailed by only four points at halftime after trailing by a big deficit.

The hopes of an upset was dashed in the first 6 minutes of the second half.

The Syracuse Orange broke open a close game with a 16-0 run to start the second half Saturday to remain unbeaten on the season at 18-0, 5-0 in the Big East Conference.

Rick Jackson led Syracuse with 15 points and 11 rebounds to achieve his 11th double-double of the season.

Dion Dixon led Cincinnati with 18 points, all on three-pointers.

The Bearcats are now 16-2 overall, 3-2 in the Big East Conference.

Cincinnati beats Miami at Millett Hall

Dion Dixon scored a career-high 23 points leading Cincinnati to a 64-48 win over Miami of Ohio.

The win allowed the Bearcats to be one of nine remaining undefeated teams in NCAA Division I.

UC at 11-0 are on their longest winning streak in basketball since the 2004-2005 season. The RedHawks, who fell to 5-7, led by seven in the first half, have lost to the Bearcats 12 straight times.

Bearcats drop Toledo to 0-8 with 81-47 thumping

The Cincinnati Bearcats jumped out to a 32-5 lead nine minutes into the game; led 53-21 at the half and were never challenged by the 0-8 Toledo Rockets in Savage Hall in the Glass City.

The Bearcats led by as many as 39 points in the second half.

Dion Dixon helped Cincinnati improve to 7-0 on the season by scoring 17 points.

Eleven players scored for Cincinnati and six scored eight points.

The pressing Bearcats forced 18 turnovers, which led to 21 points and turned 12 offensive rebounds into 15 second-chance points.

The Bearcats much-improved on the offensive end, have allowed more than 59 points in a game once all year.
