Four Ohio State players played in the Senior Bowl on Saturday afternoon for the North squad, RB Daniel Herron, WR DeVier Posey, OC Michael Brewster and OL Mike Adams.

But the real star of the game came from the University of Cincinnati.

Eastmoor Academy graduate Isaiah Pead was named the game’s most valuable player in helping the North team to a 23-13 win over the South in Mobile, Alabama.

Pead set a Senior Bowl record in the first half with 98 yards on two punt returns.

Michigan State QB Kirk Cousins threw a touchdown pass and threw for 115 yards.

Wisconsin QB Russell Wilson also threw for a touchdown.

Much-maligned Bollman headed to Boston College

Jim Bollman (courtesy of OSU athletics)

Former offensive coordinator Jim Bollman, who took the brunt of criticism during the 2011 season at Ohio State for not being a great play-caller, has landed another job with the Boston College Eagles.

Bollman’s new position will be as the offensive line coach and running-game coordinator.

Everybody who covered and followed the Buckeyes team, knew that Bollman was an offensive coordinator by name only as former head coach Jim Tressel called all the plays.

But when Tressel resigned in May due to NCAA violations, Bollman had to take over an offense that had inexperienced quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers and was missing Daniel Herron at tailback and Devier Posey at wideout and it was obvious Bollman had no clue at what to do as the offense struggled against Miami (FL), Michigan State, Purdue and Penn State en route to a 6-7 record, the first losing season at Ohio State in 23 years.

Bollman told the media that he interviewed for the job a few weeks ago with Eagles head coach Frank Spaziani. He has never worked with Spaziani but they’ve known each other for years.

Boston College is coming off a bad season of their own in 2011 at 4-8 overall, 3-5 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

PENN STATE AT OHIO STATE Update: Penn State moves ball up & down field for 10-0 lead

Devier Posey is back in action.

Daniel Herron excited about final home game

COLUMBUS, OHIO — This year’s Penn State-Ohio State has a new twist as both long-time coaches at both school’s, Joe Paterno and Jim Tressel are no longer on the sidelines.

The 24 Ohio State seniors were introduced before the game and received huge ovations with the biggest saved for DeVier Posey, back for his first game after two separate NCAA suspensions, and Dan Herron.

When Penn State came on the field, led by the Nittany Lions and cheerleaders, received a nice ovation from the home crowd.

After the coin toss, won by OSU, who deferred to the 2nd half, everyone from both teams met at midfield and shook hands.

The game did not go OSU’s way on Penn State’s first play from scrimmage, as Buckeyes DB Travis Howard pushed a Penn State receiver out of bounds. A 15-yard penalty and a first down. From there the Nittany Lions went just 5 plays, 80 yards, 2:33 elapsed time to score a touchdown as Stephfon Green from the wildcat, took a hand off and ran 41 yards for a 7-0 lead. Green ran right by Orhian Johnson and Storm Klein up the middle.

On the Nittany Lions second possession, they grind it out going 15 plays, 54 yards in 5:29 and a personal-best 43-yard field goal from Anthony Pera for a 10-0 lead.

At the end of one quarter, OSU trailing 10-0.

NOTES:

* Former OSU LB Matt Wilhelm is today’s honorary captain. He participated in the coin toss.

* Stats, PSU 119 yards to 58 for Ohio State.

* RB Green 55 yards on 4 carries and a TD for Penn State

PENN STATE AT OHIO STATE GAMEWEEK: Posey’s return could help offense against Sukay & Still

DeVier Posey finally back at WR

Nick Sukay has three INT's

Devon Still leads BTC with 16.5 TFL's

The Ohio State offense will finally get back veteran wide receiver DeVier Posey, a senior.

Earlier this week, head coach Luke Fickell was asked if Posey would start in his first game back in the lineup after serving two different NCAA suspensions. Fickell on Tuesday said he did not know.

We all know that Mike Adams and Daniel Herron started their first games back and my guess is Posey will because Ohio State will need him against a solid Penn State defense.

OSU will go up against a defense that leads the Big Ten in interceptions with 14; free safety Nick Sukay has three to lead the team. Up front, Devon Still, a certain first-round NFL draft pick is looming. He ranks second in the BTC in tackles for loss with 16.5.

The Buckeyes have been trying to go deep so much with Braxton Miller with little success. What OSU needs is to go to a short passing game featuring slants, curls and jailbreak screens like Purdue did last week.

The OSU running attack of Herron, Jordan Hall and Carlos Hyde will be tough to stop as well.

Ohio State drops out of Top 25; first since 2004

(file photo)

Ohio State’s lackluster performance on offense Saturday night on national TV cost them in the weekly rankings.

The Buckeyes have fallen out of the AP college football rankings for the first time in almost seven years. That ends the nation’s longest streak of appearances in the Top 25.

With the Buckeyes streak in the Top 25 over, Alabama has the longest with 53 and Boise State is next at 49.

The Buckeyes lost at Miami on Saturday night, 24-6. They were ranked at #17 before the game and had been in the AP Top 25 for 103 straight weeks since being out on November 20, 2004.

OSU has offensive problems, can’t decide on a quarterback and are missing offensive playmakers, wide receiver DeVier Posey and running back Daniel Herron, who are suspended until the Nebraska game for their part in memorabilia and tattoo scandal.
