Djokovic leads Serbia to 3-1 lead over United States in Davis Cup action

Novak Djokovic, despite a right ankle injury still helped lift Serbia to a huge 3-1 lead over the United States with a 7-5, 6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-0 win over Sam Querrey in a Davis Cup quarterfinal match in Boise, Idaho.

The World’s #1 Men’s Tennis player twisted his ankle on Querrey’s serve in the third game.

Spain to host USA in Davis Cup match in September

Spain will be hosting the United States in one Davis Cup semifinal in the coastal city of Gijon.

The matches will be played on an outdoor red clay court on September 14-16.

The other semifinal match will be played in Buenos Aires between the Czech Republic and Argentina.

Isner helps lead the U.S. to Davis Cup win over France

John Isner is leading the United States in the Davis Cup competition.

Isner, using his big serve and solid forehand was just too much to handle for Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in a 6-3,7-6 (4) 5-7, 6-3 win over Roquebrune, France, which put the U.S. into the Davis Cup semifinals for the first time since 2008.

The Americans won 3-2 and sets up a meeting with Spain, the defending champion.

Bryan brothers do their job to keep U.S. hopes alive

The tennis brother tandem of Bob and Mike Bryan earned the United States its first point of a Davis Cup quarterfinal against Spain, keeping the Americans hopes alive with a doubles win over Marcel Granollers and Fernando Verdasco.

The number-1 doubles team in the world earned a 6-7 (7), 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 victory Saturday over Granollers and Verdasco, who had never played doubles together. Granollers was a late substitute for Feliciano Lopez, who won a four-hour singles match over Mardy Fish on Friday.

Spain now leads the Americans 2-1 heading into Sunday’s singles matches.

The United States is 1-36 in Davis Cup history when falling behind 0-2. The only time it won was 1934 against Australia in London.

Nadal takes a rest; will skip Davis Cup

25-year-old Rafael Nadal has announced that he will skip Spain’s Davis Cup quarterfinal match against the United States in July.

The lefty with 46 career titles blames the decision on poor scheduling by the International Tennis Federation.

He says he needs a rest of 15 to 20 days after playing in Wimbledon.

The Spaniard has won $41,745,602 in career prize money.
