Former Ohio State basketball star David Lighty confirmed over the weekend that he has signed a two-year contract with Cantu which is located in northern Italy.

Eventhough there is no escape clause in the contract, Lighty says that he can leave to play in the NBA after one season or for another European team if a buyout is paid.

The undrafted Lighty, said this contract gave him security because with the NBA in a lockout-mode, no team could sign him at this time or make him any contractual offers.

Reserve guard Daequan Cook got the news he had been hoping.

The former Ohio State star received a qualifying offer from the Oklahoma City Thunder, making him a restricted free agent during this offseason.

The Thunder will now have the chance to match any contract offers Cook receives from other teams.

The Dayton, Ohio native joined the Thunder after being traded last year from the Miami Heat. He was able to get into the Thunder’s rotation in the middle of the season, scoring 6.4 points and shooting 45 percent from three-point range.
