Reports have it that Darryl Sutter to become coach of LA Kings

The are reports out of Los Angeles and the internet that former Calgary Flames general manager Darryl Sutter has been hired to take over the Kings hockey team on Tuesday.

The 53-year-old Sutter was last behind the bench with Calgary in 2006. He resigned as the GM last December.

The Kings fired Terry Murray last Monday and made John Stevens the interim head coach.

Darryl Sutter, one of seven Sutter brothers to make it to the NHL, Brent, Brian, Duane, Rich, Ron and Gary, has resigned as general manager of the Calgary Flames.

The Flames are one of the worst team’s in the Western Conference in the first-third of the season.

Darryl leaves the Flames but two of his brothers are still employed by the team. Brent is the coach of the team and Duane is the team’s director of player personnel.

Assistant GM Jay Feaster has been promoted to acting general manager and be take over the responsibility for the daily hockey operations.

As of this writing, the Flames had a record of 16-18-3 and were fourth in the Northwest Division, five points ahead of last-place Edmonton.

The 52-year-old Sutter, joined Calgary in 2002 when he was hired as head coach. He became general manager the following year. He stepped down as head coach in 2006.
