Tagliani chosen to drive for Herta in IndyCar Series

The new driver for Bryan Herta Autosport is Alex Tagliani for the 2012 IndyCar Series.

Herta’s team won the 2011 Indy 500 with the late Dan Wheldon as the driver.

Tagliani finished 14th in points last season and won poles at Indianapolis and Texas while driving for Sam Schmidt Motorsports.

Tagliani has never won an IndyCar race and his career-best finish is fourth.

Power cleared by doctors to resume racing career

Will Power, one of the IRL’s top young drivers is ready to return to the circuit.

Power, injured in the 15-car accident that killed Dan Wheldon in the IZOD IndyCar season finale, has received medical clearance to return to racing.

Power suffered two compression fractures in his thoracic vertebrae on the October 16 finale at Las Vegas.

He’ll be testing a new car next week.

Power will be testing for two days at the Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama.

IndyCar gets help in investigating Wheldon’s crash and death

IndyCar will get help with its investigation of the crash that killed two-time Indy 500 winner Dan Wheldon.

The 33-year-old Wheldon was killed in a chain-reaction crash at a race in Las Vegas.

IndyCar has announced that Formula One’s governing body and the Automobile Competition of the United States, which is an umbrella organization of auto-racing sanctioning bodies in the U.S., will help in a full and thorough investigation of the crash at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Wheldon replaced in Gold Coast race by Turner

Darren Turner has been chosen to replace the late Dan Wheldon in the V8 Supercars Gold Coast 600 this weekend in Australia at the Queensland Raceway.

Wheldon was killed Sunday in a 15-car accident in the IndyCar season finale at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The two-time Indy 500 champion was one of six IndyCar drivers who had committed to the race at Queensland.

The others are Ryan Briscoe, Helio Castroneves, Alex Tagliani, Will Power and Tony Kanaan. Power has withdrawn due to an injured back from Sunday’s IndyCar race and Kanaan said that he is sitting out due to Wheldon’s death.

The race will also feature eight Formula 1 drivers including Tonio Liuzzi, Emanuele Pirro and Gil de Ferran.

Honda named sponsor of IZOD IndyCar World Championships in Las Vegas

INDYCAR has announced that Honda will will be the presenting sponsor of the IZOD IndyCar Series and Firestone Indy Lights season-ending event on October 16 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

The champions of both series will be crowned at the IZOD INDYCAR World Championships Presented by Honda.

The IZOD IndyCar Series championship chase will be decided in the season finale for the sixth straight season.

Entering the penultimate race, the Kentucky Indy 300 on October 2, Will Power of Verizon Team Penske holds an 11-point advantage over Target Chip Ganassi Racing driver and reigning champion Dario Franchitti.

Additionally, the IZOD INDYCAR World Championships Presented by Honda will feature the Go Daddy INDYCAR Challenge, in which reigning Indy 500 champion Dan Wheldon will start from the rear of the 30-plus car field in a Bryan Herta Autosport car. If Wheldon wins, he and one sweepstakes entrant will split $5 million.
