Mavericks star Nowitzki still not ready to return to action

Dirk Nowitzki told members of the media that his return to action is still about two weeks away from being able to run and shoot the basketball.

He is still not sure when his 2012-13 season debut for the Dallas Mavericks.

The 34-year-old German had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee October 19, the first surgery for the 7-footer, who is in his 15th NBA season.

The 11-time All-Star is recovering from knee surgery. He said that before he can start practicing & playing again, the swelling has to be 100 percent gone.

Deron Williams, top NBA free agent this off-season, will choose between Nets, Mavericks

The top-free agent this off-season has made it known that his list will include only two teams.

Brooklyn Nets point guard Deron Williams, according to reports all over the NBA, says he will only consider his current team or go home to play for his hometown team, the Dallas Mavericks.

The free agent season begins on Sunday.

Williams averaged 21 points and 8.7 assists a game for the Nets this season.

Williams likes both teams and is having a problem choosing one over the other.

The 6’3, 209-pound Williams, is a product of the University of Illinois.

He started his career with the Utah Jazz and is a 3-time NBA All-Star and was a member of the All-Rookie Team his first season.

Odom was headed to D-League, but stays with Mavericks for tonight’s game vs. Jazz

 

Lamar Odom

The plan on Friday announced by the Dallas Mavericks was that Lamar Odom was supposed to play at least one game in the NBA Development League and then rejoin the parent team.

Odom was going to be assigned to the Texas Legends as they played on Saturday against Frisco.

However, he was recalled by the Mavericks before tonight’s game vs. the Utah Jazz.

The Mavs need Odom due to the fact that they play nine games in 12 days, including yesterday (New Orleans) and at home tonight (Saturday) against Utah.

Odom is averaging 7.7 points and 4.5 rebounds in 32 games with Dallas.

Odom’s last played for the Mavericks on February 20 and has missed four games overall to take care of family matters.

He came to Dallas in a trade with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Nowitzki reaches 23,000 career points in Dallas’ win over Bucks

Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki became the 23rd player in NBA history to eclipse the 23,ooo-point mark in a 102-76 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks.

Nowitzki reached the milestone when he canned a free throw at the 7:17 mark in the first half. The West German-born player finished with 11 points, putting his career total at 23,008, which is third among active players behind Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett.

Spoelstra given extension by Heat

Everybody from media to fans of the Miami Heat who felt that Erik Spoelstra would be out as head coach after this season, can forget about that notion.

The team has given the 41-year-old protege of Pat Riley a contract extension.

Last season, Miami had a 58-24 record and  14-7 postseason record, but lost to the Dallas Mavericks in six games in the NBA Finals.

The University of Portland grad is in his fourth season as a head coach and 17th with the team overall.

The Evanston, Illinois native has a three-year record of 148-98 in the regular season and 18-15 in the playoffs.
