OSU men beats Wolverines 68-64

The Michigan athletic department tried to use the hiring of new football coach Brady Hoke to inspire the basketball team by having him at Crisler Arena with Ohio State’s basketball team in town. Hoke did not address the crowd.

It’s the same ploy that Ohio State used when Jim Tressel was hired and showed up at Value City Arena to inspire the basketball.

Michigan’s ploy did not work as the Buckeyes used a 12-0 second half run early to put the game in their favor en route to a 68-64 win in Ann Arbor.

William Buford scored 19 points to lead (17-0, 4-0 Big Ten) Ohio State to the win.

The Buckeyes are 12-2 against Michigan in Thad Matta’s seven years as head coach.

Michigan was led by Darius Morris with 18 points and eight assists.

Buckeye women lose at Michigan; loss streak at three

The six-time defending Big Ten champion Ohio State women’s basketball team has not looked good during its recent losing streak.

The most recent loss happened at the home of their arch-rival Michigan at Crisler Arena in Ann Arbor.

The 8-4 Buckeyes fell behind early by a score of 24-4 on cold-shooting. They shot 22.6 percent in the first half and 32.3 percent in the second. They were 2-15 from three-point land.

Michigan ups its record to 8-5 shot 42 percent, but did shot better on three-pointers, going 9-23.  The Wolverines were led by Veronica Hicks and Hilliard Davidson graduate Carmen Reynolds who each scored 17 points.

The only Buckeyes who played well were Jantel Lavender with 18 points and Tayler Hill with 15.
