Canada shocks USA in CONCACAF Olympic qualifying game, 2-0

Canada’s soccer team shocked the United States 2-0 in Nashville, Tennessee in the Olympic qualifier.

Doneil Henry and Lucas Cavallini each scored to lead the Canadians who earned its first win over the Americans since 1992 in the CONCACAF men’s Olympic qualifying tournament.

Corona leads USA over Cuba in Olympic qualifier

Joe Corona scored three goals as the United States beat Cuba 6-0 in the Americans’ opening match of the CONCACAF Olympic qualifying tournament in Nashville, Tennessee.

Corona is a 21 year-old from San Diego, California who plays for Club Tijuana in the Mexican League.

Two goals each from Wambach, Morgan lift U.S. women to CONCACAF title

31-year-old Abby Wambach and 22-year-old Alex Morgan scored two goals apiece, and the United States women’s team to a 4-0 win over Canada in the championship game of the CONCACAF Olympic qualifying tournament on Sunday night in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Morgan started her first game in the tournament and scored in the fourthand 56th minutes.

Wambach passed longtime U.S. captain Kristine Lilly and into second place on the career soccer goal scoring list with 131 as she scored in the 24th and 28th minutes. Wambach now trails Mia Hamm who scored 158 in her U.S. soccer career.

U.S. women qualify for Olympics in London with win over Costa Rica, 3-0

The United States women’s soccer team have earned their way into the 2012 Olympic Games in London with a win over Costa Rica, 3-0 in the semifinals of the CONCACAF qualifying tournament.

The Americans had to win the match to advance to London.

The goals were scored by Tobin Heath in the 16th minute, Carli Lloyd in the 72nd and Alex Morgan in the 89th.

The U.S. will be the two-time defending champion in London, having taken the gold in Athens in 2004 and Beijing in 2008.

Rogers added to U.S. Gold Cup team

Columbus Crew midfielder Robbie Rogers has been slected to the U.S. national team for the Gold Cup tournament in June.

Rogers, who can be outspoken at times, has provided the 2011 edition of the Crew with very energetic play all season. He has two goals and one assist.

Rogers will join the rest of the U.S. team for training in Cary, North Carolina starting next week.

The Gold Cup is a 12-team, national-team championship of the CONCACAF region, held every two years. It will be played in 13 venues across the U.S. beginning June 5.

The final will be played in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California on June 25.
