Former Notre Dame & NFL QB Kiel dies at 50

Former Notre Dame quarterback Blair Kiel died Sunday night in Columbus, Indiana.

Kiel was also a punter in the NFL for Tampa Bay, Indianapolis and Green Bay.

Kiel was just 50 years old. The cause of death has not been determined.

Kiel played for the Fighting Irish from 1980 to 1983 and in the NFL from 1984 to 1991.

His nephew, Gunner Kiel, is a freshman quarterback at Notre Dame.

Kiel’s NFL stats look this way, 108-193 passing attempts for 56 percent completion, 75.4% passing rating, 1,296 yards, 8 touchdowns and 7 interceptions.

The Columbus, Indiana native finished 2010 with 6,221 points which was good for seventh place and a spot in the Chase.

The 2002 and 2005 Sprint Cup champion is one of NASCAR’s most popular and respected drivers. He has won on every type of track and is talented enough to drive bad cars solid enough and good cars great enough.

Still single, at 39 years old, Stewart is still a threat to win each and every week on the NASCAR circuit.

He co-owner of the Stewart-Haas Racing with his crew chief being Darian Grubb.

Most folks tend to forget that Tony, was a one-time IndyCar IRL champion driver.

The owner of Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, Stewart runs his own foundation that aids animals, children and drivers.

In his storied career, he has started 428 times, captured 12 poles, with 39 wins, has 153 Top-5 finishes and 247 Top-10 finishes.
