GAME REPORT BY JOHNNY STARR

The Brookhaven Bearcats took to the road on Saturday night with an uncharacteristic 0-2 start to the new season. And were quickly behind 14-0 in the second quarter.

But behind the play of Kevin Greenhow, the Bearcats road trip to the Cincinnati area was a success.

Greenhow rushed for a 20-yard touchdown in overtime to give the Columbus City League North member a 20-17 win in a nonleague contest over Fairfield.

Greenhow was a big factor totaling 242 yards, 178 through the air and was responsible for all three touchdowns; passing to Casey Ren-Gayle for 5 yards and a 17 yard score to Ramone Broomfield in the fourth quarter which took the game into overtime.

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Beechcroft visits Mifflin tonight in week 7 Columbus City League North action

PREVIEW CONTRIBUTION FROM Louis Carroll

The Columbus City League North battle between Beechcroft (5-1) visiting Mifflin (6-0).

Everybody around Columbus wondered before the 2010 season why former Brookhaven head coach Gregg Miller would want to try to turnaround the Mifflin football program, after so many others had failed.

Miller said it could be done and he has done it!

In 17 years at North rival Brookhaven, Miller led the Bearcats to 10 league titles and seven playoff berths.

If Mifflin can keep winning, they’ll capture their first playoff appearance since 2002.

Don’t expect the Beechcroft Cougars to be a pushover. They are annually a City League North title contender. They have a tough defense with two shutouts and will be the only team so far that Mifflin has faced with a winning record.
