The National Hockey League holds its annual draft lottery tonight, and the Florida Panthers, who finished with a record of 15-27-6 and 36 points, have the best odds of winning. Florida’s chances are at 25 percent, followed by Colorado at 19 percent.

The Columbus Blue Jackets are the NHL’s top non-playoff team and their chances of winning is at 1-in-200 of winning the lottery. If they don’t, the Jackets will pick 14th. Columbus also has two other first-round picks from the New York Rangers and Los Angeles Kings.

The draft lottery determines the order of selection for the first 14 picks of the NHL’s amateur draft on June 30.

All 14 teams that missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs have a shot at the #1 overall pick.

Teemu Selanne is still in good shape, productive and still wants to play hockey.

The 42-year-old has agreed to a one-year, $4.5 million deal with the Anaheim Ducks which will allow him to return for his 20th NHL season.

Selanne has been a member of the Ducks for the past seven years, winning a Stanley Cup in 2007. He played in all 82 games last season without any injuries. He is the oldest player to accomplish that feat, no injuries in an 82-game regular season.

Next season, current free-agent goaltender, 43-year-old Dwayne Roloson may still be in the league and Dominik Hasek, who is 47, is talking about a comeback. Selanne for the moment is the oldest in the NHL.

A native of Helsinki, Finland, Selanne is the NHL’s 19th-leading scorer in history with 1,046 points in two decades playing for Colorado, San Jose, Winnipeg and Anaheim. A right winger, he is 12th NHL history with 663 goals and is very close to entering the top 10.

The Cleveland Indians received a strong start from Josh Tomlin on Wednesday, allowing two runs and nine hits in 5.2 innings of pitching.

However, the Indians wasted his outing losing to the Chicago Cubs 2-0.

The Tribe only had five hits, two from Jason Kipsnis.

Good news on the Chris Perez progress. The Cleveland closer will be making his first appearance today (Thursday) against Colorado. He’s been out of action since February 23 when an injury to the left oblique muscle occured.
