Clippers open season with 17 runs over shellshocked Indianapolis (Thursday)

The fans at Huntington Park in Columbus had an enjoyable opening night as the baseball season returned. How often does a fan see 17 runs in a game especially in the first game of the season when the pitching is usually ahead of the hitting.

The Clippers beat International League West rival Indianapolis Indians, 17-4.

Carlos Santana (MiLB)

Carlos Santana homered twice in his IL debut and Carlos Carrasco struck out eight batters in five and two-thirds innings, allowing three earned runs and earning the victory.

Indians starter Kevin Hart was ejected in the fourth inning for throwing a pitch behind Santana. Moments later, Santana took relief pitcher Jeremy Powell over the fence to tie the game at three. Wes Hodges then broke the tie with a home run in the next at bat and Columbus was on its way to a rout.

Chris Gimenez homered in his first at bat of the season for the Clippers. All nine starters for Columbus recorded at least one hit in the game. The home team scored in all five innings against the Indians bullpen. Highlighted by eight runs in the seventh.
