CITY LEAGUE SOUTH DIVISION FOOTBALL: South Bulldogs blasts Africentric, 70-0

Former Eastmoor Academy graduate and University of Minnesota safety Keith Dimmy was hired six weeks before the 2012 season. But he set out to get the Columbus South football program going in the right direction. after all, South has not had a winning season since 2006 when they were 6-4.

Before his arrival, South had won a total of just three games in three seasons.

Under Dimmy’s direction, they finished at 4-6.

This season, the Bulldogs are again making progress at 3-5, 2-3 in the tough City South Division.

Friday night, they traveled to Africentric and handed the Nubians a 70-0 loss.

Senior running back Deone Lindsey ran wild, rushing for 298 yards with eight touchdowns.

Africentric, known more for basketball than football, drops to 0-8, 0-5 on the season.


COLUMBUS CITY LEAGUE BASKETBALL: Africentric beats West despite 24 points by Holland

The City South Division leading Africentric Nubians knew they had to stop Ed Golden and Charles Holland when they played Columbus West on Friday night.

Holland was the only factor with 24 points as the Nubians won 87-60 to up its record to 10-1, 7-0 on the season.

The improved West Cowboys, who can score a bunch of points at times, fall to 3-7, 0-6.

Kenny Robinson led a balanced attack of eleven players with 11 points for Africentric.



COLUMBUS CITY LEAGUE: Walnut Ridge has everything clicking in rout of International

Two-time City South Division champion Walnut Ridge recently had a two-game losing streak, but has rebounded by routing Independence, 64-33 on Tuesday and Friday night against the newest City League school, Columbus International, 82-26.

Wisconsin football recruit Rob Wheelwright led the way with 32 points on 15 of 21 shooting and pulled down nine rebounds.

Tarik Wright added 18 for the Scots.

International, who’ll play every City League team at least once, drops to 0-6, 0-4 on the season.

COLUMBUS CITY LEAGUE FOOTBALL, Week 4: Marion-Franklin keeps Briggs winless, 72-6



Marion-Franklin’s Red Devils were 13-1 last year with a playoff berth and seemed to be on their way again.

After all, the team returns several stars in Corry Benson, Jaron Dukes, Joe Alverson, Darien Williams and Damon Dillard.

On Friday night, the Red Devils basically put the game away against visiting Briggs in the first quarter, scoring 35 points in a 72-6 rout.

Quarterback Benson passed for 242 yards and four first-half touchdowns as the offense rolled up 555 yards.

Marion-Franklin ups its record to 3-1, 1-0 in the City South Division while Briggs, under new head coach Butler By’note, drops to 0-4, 0-1 in the same division.

COLUMBUS CITY LEAGUE FOOTBALL, Week 4: West comes back to win at South, 39-27

In a battle of City South Division high-scoring teams, The Columbus West Cowboys beats the Columbus South Bulldogs, 39-27.

The Cowboys, who were 7-3 last year, 4-3 in the South, haven’t missed a beat after graduating record-setting quarterback Chris Rhodes. They are 3-1 overall, 1-0 in the South.

West took control of the game by scoring 12 points in the 3rd quarter and 14 in the fourth.

The Cowboys were led by Sr. tailback Quran Stokes who rushed for 168 yards on 23 carries and a touchdown.
