COLUMBUS CITY LEAGUE FOOTBALL, Week 4: Hale leads Beechcroft’s 55-15 shellacking of Centennial

Columbus Centennial High School, located on the corner of Bethel and Godown roads on the North side of the city, has only had two winning seasons in its history since the school opened in 1976.

It looks like they’ll have to wait for the third winning season in another year as they dropped to 0-4, after Friday’s 55-15 loss to visiting Beechcroft.

It’s hard to believe that the Northland Vikings haven’t lost a City League North Division game since February 2006. They also haven’t lost to a South Division team since 2005.

The streak continued on Tuesday night as the Vikings entertained their fans with a 120-51 win over the Linden-McKinley Panthers.

The usual players led the way, Jordan Potts scored 25 with Jalen Robinson adding 20 and Devon Scott chipped in with 14.

Add in Ke’chaun Lewis’ 20 points and it shows that Sean Taylor’s team is more than just the three beforementioned seniors.

The Vikings are 14-1 overall, 11-0 in the North Division and seems headed for another City League championship game.

The game was a rout from the beginning as the Vikings led 28-16 at the end of the first quarter and 58-31 at the half. The lead grew to 85-43 after 3 quarters and the Vikings coasted home to the win.

Patrick Ngene-Igwe led the Panthers with 16 points as the team falls to 3-13, 0-8 in the North Division.

It had been awhile since the Mifflin Punchers earned a win.

Their last win was against the Dayton Jefferson Broncos right before New Year’s Day.

The Punchers traveled to historic North High School to play the Linden-McKinley Panthers on Friday night.

Troy Robinson canned two free throws with six seconds to go in leading Mifflin to a 66-64 win over the host Panthers in a City League North Division game.

The Punchers improve to 4-7, 3-5 while Linden continues to struggle at 2-10, 1-7.

J Murrell led Mifflin with 18 points, but it was Robinson’s free throw shooting, making 6 of 7 from the charity stripe and scoring 8 of his 13 points in the final quarter that helped seal the game.
