NHL suspends Blackhawks’ Seabrook 3 games for vicious hit

The National Hockey League has suspended Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook for three games for a hit he made on St. Louis Blues center David Backes on Saturday.

The 29-year-old received a five-minute major and a game misconduct penalty for a vicious elbow to Backes’ head. Backes did not return to the game after being helped off the ice.

Blackhawks to lose Marian Hossa for 2-3 weeks with injury

Chicago Blackhawks forward Marian Hossa has been a superstar everywhere he has played in the NHL, Ottawa, Atlanta, Pittsburgh and Detroit. He can score at anytime from anywhere on the ice.

The 35-year-old was having another solid season with 24 goals, 26 assists in 57 games. He was on his way to achieving 1,000 points for his career with just 15 more when an injury put him out of action.

In Saturday’s win over the Pittsburgh Penguins, Hossa suffered an upper-body injury which will keep him out of action for 2-3 weeks.

Blackhawks sign 2012 first-round draft pick

The Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to terms on a three-year contract with their 2012 first-round draft pick Teuvo Teravainen.

Teravainen, who is just 18, is a forward from Finland, was the 18th overall pick.

He scored 13 goals with 18 assists in 44 regular-season games for SM-liiga’s Jokerit last season.

Blackhawks agree to terms with Marcus Kruger

The Chicago Blackhawks have locked up another key piece of their championship roster in center Marcus Kruger.

According to published reports and sports talk shows, the deal is for two years.

The 23-year-old Kruger, who is 5’11, 172 pounds, was a restricted free agent, who had four goals and nine assists in 47 regular-season games.

In the Blackhawks run to the Stanley Cup championship, Kruger scored three goals and two assists.

 

Chicago Blackhawks beat Red Wings in OT to set club record with 6-0 start

Nick Leddy of the Chicago Blackhawks scored a goal 2:45 into overtime and helped his team to a 6-0 start, the best franchise history with a win over division rival Detroit on Sunday night.

The best start by the Blackhawks prior to this season was 5-0 in 1971-72.

Leddy took a cross-ice pass from Viktor Stalberg, fired from the left circle to beat goaltender Jimmy Howard.
