Champ Bailey has decided to call it a career.

The 15-year cornerback, who played in a position-record 12 Pro Bowls, has announced his retirement.

The University of Georgia product ends his career after stints with Washington, Denver and New Orleans with 925 tackles, 3 QB sacks, 52 interceptions, 9 forced fumbles and 4 touchdowns.

The 36-year-old Georgia native went to training camp with the Saints this season but was released due to a lingering foot injury.

His agent, Jack Reale said that his client had offers from other teams to play but decided it was time to retire.

Bengals offense comes alive in 33-24 win over Denver Broncos

MEGASPORTSNEWS.COM GAME COVERAGE

CINCINNATI, OHIO — The Bengals did not need Chad Ochocinco, Terrell Owens or any of their regulars Sunday night, in a come-from-behind pre-season win over the Denver Broncos at Paul Brown Stadium beforeĀ  a crowd of 51,278.

The Bengals could not do anything right on offense or defense the previous Sunday in the Hall of Fame Game in Fawcett Stadium in Canton, Ohio against the Dallas Cowboys.

However, everything was better this week, offense, defense, special teams and the rookies.

The passing game was much improved, mainly due to a solid offensive line.

Two of their top rookie, Jermaine Gresham and Jordan Shipley, were all over the field catching footballs and providing the spark the offense needed.

Gresham pulled in three receptions for 37 yards and made a key block on running back Cedric Benson’s 21-yard run early in the first quarter. Jordan Shipley caught a team-high five receptions for 50 yards and he also ran back kickoffs and punt returns totaling another 56 yards.

The Bengals piled up 409 total offensive yards to 287 for Denver. The Bengals put the game away with a 12-play touchdown drive that went 92 yards ending on a one-yard dive by James Johnson, another of Cincinnati’s young, small and quick running backs. That touchdown gave the Bengals a 30-17 lead with 12:47 to go in the fourth quarter.

The Bengals backup players had their moments.

Jerome Simpson caught a nice 21-yard pass from J.T. O’Sullivan. After missing his first four passes, O’Sullivan completed five of his next six passes for 84 yards passing, which generated two drives culminating in field goals.

Backup cornerback David Jones showed why the Cleveland Browns gave up on Dublin, Ohio native Brady Quinn, by picking off a pass into the right flat and returning it 24 yards for a touchdown, giving the Bengals a 17-14 lead in the second quarter.

Place kicker Dave Rayner, in a battle with former Ohio State star Mike Nugent, had four field goals.

The Bengals will get four days to prepare for Friday night’s game against the visiting Philadelphia Eagles.

GAME NOTES

* The Denver Broncos were very consistent in 2009. They ended up 8-8, good for 2nd place in the AFC West Division. They scored 326 points and gave up 324. They were 4-4 at home, 4-4 on the road, 6-6 against AFC competition, 2-2 against the NFC AND 3-3 against their own division. They started the season at 7-0 and went 1-8 the rest of the way and ended the season losing 4 in a row.

* Denver finished with a 93-67 (.581) regular-season record during the 2000′s to mark its third straight decade with 90 or more wins, the only team in the NFL to accomplish that feat during the last three decades.

* Denver returns 15 offensive players who started at least one game for the team in 2009, including 16-game starter OL Ryan Clady who became the fifth player since the 1970 NFL merger to receive first-team AP All-Pro honors at tackle by his second pro season.

* CB Champ Bailey, S Brian Dawkins and LB Elvis Dumervil represented the Broncos in the 2010 Pro Bowl, as Bailey’s ninth selection to the all-Star game tied for the most in league history at the cornerback position.

* K Matt Prater finished strong in 2009 by making 10 of his final 20 field goal attempts and tying for third in the league as well as in broncos history with 30 field goals made on the season.

* The Broncos had nine selections in the 2010 NFL DRAFT. The two most notable picks are Tim Tebow of Florida and Eric Decker of Minnesota.

QB Tim Tebow, picked in the first round, 25th overall, was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy for three consecutive years. He won the award in 2007 and was part of two national championship teams in 2006 and 2008 during a record-setting career when he recorded a 170.8 passing efficiency, 2nd in NCAA Football Subdivision history.

WR Eric Decker, selected in the 3rd round, 874th overall pick, set school career records with 227 receptions and 3,119 receiving yards that rank sixth and eighth, respectively, in Big Ten Conference history.
