Columbus Bishop Ready standout Joe Graessle, currently a senior at Tiffin University, recently achieved a milestone that most college players never reach.

Graessle became only the second player in Dragons’ team history to score more than 2,000 points in a career.

He has 2,032 and is behind only Jeff Ward who scored 2,532 in a storied career.

During the current 2013-14 season, Graessle is averaging 21.5 points, has 44 three-point goals and 64 steals. His field goal shooting percentage is 42.8.

The Grove City, Ohio native holds the Tiffin University record for three-pointers in a career with 285, in a game with 9 and points in a season with 691.

While at Bishop Ready, a member of the Central Catholic League, the 6’3, 205 pound guard scored 1,431 points in his career.

COLUMBUS CITY LEAGUE BOYS BASKETBALL: East drops 57-32 decision to Watterson

Coming into this week, the East High Tigers felt really good about themselves having won three in a row over Briggs, Walnut Ridge and Linden to even their record at 5-5.

With the win on Tuesday over Linden, still looming was Mifflin on Friday and Watterson on Saturday.

The Tigers had a complete meltdown in the fourth quarter against a pressing, fast-breaking Mifflin team and lost 82-78 on Megasportsnews.com’s HIGH SCHOOL BOUNCE.

Then comes Saturday and a meeting with tough Central Catholic League power, Bishop Watterson.

The result was a disappointing week when they felt they could win all three if not two of the games.

Bryan Jackson led the Eagles with a season-high 26 points and 11 rebounds for host Watterson who improves to 7-1 after the 57-32 win over East.

The Tigers dropped two games under .500 at 5-7.

Watterson led 17-9 at the end of the first quarter. But East closed to within 22-16 at the half. The Eagles took total control in the 3rd quarter with a 15-8 run to move the score to 37-24 and the rout was on.

Two-sport star Jacob Matuska led the Hartley Hawks to a key win in the Central Catholic League over rival St. Charles Friday night.

Matuska, who is going to Notre Dame on a football scholarship, scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and helped lead his team on an 8-2 fourth quarter run in the 45-36 win.

Hartley improves to (6-1,3-0), while St. Charles drops to (5-3,1-2).
