Katherine Anne Couric, known as the popular news anchor Katie Couric has finally put all of the rumors and speculation to rest.

She announced this week that she will be leaving the CBS Evening News. For weeks, network executives and Couric herself have hinted that a transition was coming to the news slot.

She decided to make the announcement before leaving for London to cover the royal wedding.

Those same rumors have 60 minutes correspondent Scott Pelley as the logical choice to replace her.

Eventhough Couric is popular with viewers, she never made the big splash at CBS as she did all those years with the NBC Today Show.

Born in 1957 in Arlington, Virginia, which is located across the Potomoc River from Washington D.C., Couric is a graduate of the University of Virginia.
