Big East Feature Game of the Week: Cincinnati at Rutgers

 

The Cincinnati Bearcats at 7-2 will have a new look under center this week at quarterback.

Starting quarterback Zach Collaros is out of action with an ankle cast after getting hurt in last week’s game against West Virginia and will be lost for the rest of the regular season.

This week the ‘Cats will have Benton “Munchie” Legaux under center. He is dual-threat QB who might keep some of the heat of off the team’s running attack. Legaux is 6’4, 203 pounds.

The game will start at 12 noon and is in Piscataway, New Jersey, home of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights who are 7-3.

Rutgers has the Big East Conference’s best scoring defense at 18 points per game, total defense, 322 yards a game, pass defense 175 yards per game and interceptions 16.

Cincinnati is 3-1 and leads the Big East by a half-game over Rutgers, West Virginia, Louisville and Pittsburgh.

Cincinnati upsets #16 Louisville, 63-54

The Cincinnati Bearcats earned their 20th win of the season by beating one of their arch-rivals, the Louisville Cardinals, 63-54.

Cashmere Wright canned 20 points and Sean Kilpatrick added 18 for the Bearcats in the Big East affair. The ‘Cats are 20-6, 7-6.

Louisville drops to 19-7, 8-5.

UC reached 20 wins for the first time since 2006.

Cincinnati stays undefeated by dumping DePaul

The Cincinnati Bearcats are 13-0 and have extended their best start to a season since the 2003-2004 season under Bob Huggins, when they also won their first 13 games.

After a slow start to the game, the Bearcats took control with a 34-6 run. The Blue Demons, under new head coach Oliver Purnell, missed 18 of 21 shots from the field during that stretch.

Larry Davis scored 20 points, a season-high, in leading the ‘Cats to a Big East opening win of 76-60.

DePaul falls to 6-7 overall.
