#22 Cincinnati beats Campbell to go 4-0 on the season

The Cincinnati Bearcats improve to 4-0 on the season with a 91-72 win over Campbell University on Tuesday night.

Cashmere Wright scored a career-high 28 points and JaQuon Parker added a season-high 21 points in the win.

Campbell University, from Buies Creek, North Carolina, drops to 2-3 on the season.

Wright shot 8 of 14 from the floor, including 4 for 6 from 3-point range, while adding a season-high five steals, two assists and his first block of the year. As a team, the Bearcats shot an even 50 percent (32-64) from the field.

Bench points were in favor of the Bearcats, as the UC reserves produced 23 points compared with four by Campbell.

The Fighting Camels went on a late 16-4 run to cut UC’s lead to 75-64 with 5:21 left to play. CU’s senior guard Darren White, who entered the day averaging 25.5 points per game, scored 12 of his 22 points during the run.

Bearcats’ Wright big week lands him on Big East Honor Roll


CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati junior guard Cashmere Wright has been named to the weekly BIG EAST Conference honor roll following his play last week in Bearcats wins at Wright State and against Radford.


Wright averaged 18.5 points while shooting 57.7 percent from the field (15-of-26) and 37.5 percent from three-point range (6-of-16) for the week. He handed out 14 assists with only three turnovers to go with two steals and nine rebounds.

Saturday against Radford, Wright led UC with a career-high 25 points on 10-of-16 shooting with a season-high four three-pointers in the Bearcats’ 101-70 home win. He also dished out six assists without a turnover.

Wednesday at Wright State, Wright scored 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting. He handed out eight assists with three turnovers against the Raiders.


Wright currently ranks fourth on the team in scoring, averaging 10.6 points. He leads all Bearcats with 4.9 assists per game. Over the past six games, Wright has dished out 38 assists while committing 11 turnovers.

Tiny Presbyterian College upsets Cincinnati; rallies from 15 down

Khalid Mutakabbir led a Presbyterian comeback from a 15-point deficit and knocked down the go-ahead three-point goal with 7.6 seconds to go Saturday, leading the Blue Hose to a 56-54 upset of the #20 Cincinnati Bearcats. It was the school’s biggest win in five years of playing Division I basketball.

Presbyterian College is a small, private liberal arts college from Clinton, South Carolina, from the Big South Conference with an enrollment of 1,300. They are considered a Division I mid-major school.

The Blue Hose improve to 3-2 while the Bearcats fall to 2-1.

PC trailed by 15 points halfway through the second half.

Mutakabbir matched his career-high with 25 points and he fueled the 24-7 run to end the game.

Cincinnati had the last shot of the game but Cashmere Wright’s shot was too hard and clanked off the rim as the Blue Hose celebrated at midcourt as the crowd of 4,960 at the Shoemaker Center booed the home team as they left the court.

The Bearcats were led by Sean Kilpatrick with 19 points.

Bearcats squeeze out win over Marquette

The Cincinnati Bearcats feel with a 23-7 overall record, that they’ll be in the ‘Big Dance’, the NCAA Tournament. Some say they’re 10-7 Big East record is not good enough.

However, they’re most recent win over Marquette, 67-60 might help the cause.

The Eagles drop to 18-12, 9-8.

Cashmere Wright scored 15 points to lead the Cincinnati Bearcats.

Cincinnati upsets #16 Louisville, 63-54

The Cincinnati Bearcats earned their 20th win of the season by beating one of their arch-rivals, the Louisville Cardinals, 63-54.

Cashmere Wright canned 20 points and Sean Kilpatrick added 18 for the Bearcats in the Big East affair. The ‘Cats are 20-6, 7-6.

Louisville drops to 19-7, 8-5.

UC reached 20 wins for the first time since 2006.
