LeBron James expecting to play Thursday against the Knicks

It’s a rarity when LeBron James misses an NBA game. He is one of those players that has to be completely injured to beg out of the lineup.

Last Sunday, James missed the Miami Heat’s win over Chicago with a broken nose which was understandable.

The NBA superstar has been practicing this week in non-contact drills and is listed as probable to play on Thursday night against the New York Knicks and Carmelo Anthony.

Brooklyn Nets beat NY Knicks in overtime, 96-89

The Brooklyn Nets, formerly of New Jersey, pulled out an overtime thriller in their new-look rivalry opener with the New York Knicks who are from Manhattan, 96-89.

The win allowed the city rivals to tie for first place.

The game was originally scheduled to be played November 1, but was postponed in the wake of superstorm Sandy.

Wearing uniform #42 that Jackie Robinson made famous in Brooklyn for the Dodgers, Jerry Stackhouse scored the tie-breaking three-point goal with 3:31 left in overtime to help the Nets clinch the game.

Brook Lopez led the Nets with 22 points and 11 rebounds.

The Knicks only had two players in double figures scoring, Carmelo Anthony with 35 points, 13 rebounds and Tyson Chandler with 28 points and 10 rebounds.

Linsanity is over for now as Lin tears meniscus

It was not long ago this current NBA season that the New York Knicks had tried out three point guards before settling on Jeremy Lin, who had been cut by Golden State and Houston.

He became an instant world-wide star in the NBA with back-to-back Sports Illustrated covers but now his season has ended.

The 23-year-old Lin will miss the rest of the regular season due to knee surgery that will keep him out of action six weeks. If the Knicks make it to the playoffs, he might be able to comeback in the Eastern Conference finals.

Lin had an MRI recently that showed a small, chronic meniscus tear.

Lin was having a great season for a player who had bounced around for the first few weeks at the start. He averaged 14.1 points, 6.1 assists.

Lin became the first American-born player of Taiwanese or Chinese descent to play in the NBA, and took the Knicks on a seven-game winning streak which was surprising with a team that has Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudamire as its star players.

The New York Knicks were supposed to be led by Amare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony.

But instead, they’re being led by the Lin factor and the results are very good.

Jeremy Lin did not have to score a lot of points on Wednesday night in the New York Knicks, 100-85 win over the Sacramento Kings.

The Harvard grad handed out a career-best 13 assists as the Knicks reached the .500 mark and won its seventh straight game.

Lin, a point guard, scored 10 points in a Knicks offense that shot 51 percent from the floor.

Lin scored 136 points in his first five starting assignments, most by any NBA player since the league merged with the ABA in 1976.

Lin is the reigning NBA Eastern Conference player of the week. He played 26 minutes in the game and sat out the end of the third quarter and all of the fourth quarter.

New York is 15-15 on the season.

This is the first time since the end of last season that the Knicks have won seven-in-a-row.

Celebrities at the game included former vice president Al Gore and former heavyweight boxer Mike Tyson.

With the NBA in a lockdown mode and no end in sight, several players are trying to keep in shape any way they can.

On Sunday, Kevin Durant, LeBron James and Russell Westbrook comprised a White team and beat a Blue team led by Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul, 176-171 in Oklahoma City.

Durant produced a triple-double scored 42 points, pulled down 26 rebounds and dished out 11 assists in the charity basketball game in the city home of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

At halftime of the game, Durant presented a check for $100,000 to Single Parents Support Network of Oklahoma City.

The NBA players will be putting on several of these charity games around the league in order to keep their fans entertained until the NBA officially returns.
