The Cleveland Cavaliers blew a 17-point lead, the game and lost All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving in a 100-96 decision to the Toronto Raptors.

The 20-year-old Irving left the game with a bruised left shoulder late in the third quarter. X-rays were negative and he will have further tests in the next few days.

The Cavaliers locker room was kept closed for more than 20 minutes after the game while head coach Byron Scott let the team know he is tired of them blowing games in the 3rd quarter.

Amir Johnson scored 17 points and tied a career high with 16 rebounds for the Raptors.

Rookie Dion Waiters scored 13 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter for Cleveland.

One thing is certain, Cavs can beat the Knicks

J. J. Hickson (file photo)

Even with a rebuilding team, the Cleveland Cavaliers can beat the superstar-loaded Knicks.

J.J. Hickson, one of the Cavs cornerstone pieces to return to the glory days, led the team to a 115-109 win over the New York Knicks in Quicken Loans Arena.

The Cavs have two wins over the playoff-bound Knicks.

Hickson was coming off a dreadful night against Houston, where head coach Byron Scott benched him for the entire fourth quarter, took his frustrations out on the Knicks, with 24 points, 15 rebounds and a career-high five blocks.

Hickson played All-Star Amare Stoudemire tough and aggressive, just as he played LA Clippers star Blake Griffin two weeks before. Amare did score 31 points, with 11 rebounds and five blocks, but Hickson did not let him dominate as he can.

Carmelo Anthony scored 27 points before fouling out. Chauncey Billups scored 20 points in the fourth quarter and finished with 26.

Hickson got lots of help in the scoring column from Antawn Jamison had 28 points and 13 rebounds, Ramon Sessions with 22 points.

The Cavs outrebounded the Knicks 62-42 which led to 26 second-chance points.

Johnson scored 23 points, 14 in the second half.

Cleveland head coach Byron Scott used a smaller lineup with three guards to outquick the Hawks who are taller. He started 6-1 Mo Williams, 6’1 Daniel Gibson and 6’6 Anthony Parker.

Antawn Jamison had 23 points and seven rebounds. Mo Williams scored 18 points and 11 assists for his fourth consecutive double-double.

76ers topple Cavaliers by 20 points, 117-97

Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Byron Scott is learning that winning games are going to be very difficult this year without a superstar player around who can score 30 to 40 points and also come through when the game is tight.

Scott has seen his team lose to teams with lesser talent as they have been on a losing skid. This time to the Philadelphia 76ers at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

The team’s biggest problem is on the defensive end where they’ve given up more than 100 points for the fifth straight game and the 14th time this year. They are 2-12 when they give up 100 points or more.

Philadelphia came out and put the game out of reach early. The Sixers recorded a season in first quarter points (35) and half (66).

It was the fifth time this season Cleveland have lost by 20 or more points, and it’s the first time they’ve lost five straight games since early in 2007, when they lost six straight from November 28-December8.

J.J. Hickson led the Cavs with 18 points and Daniel Gibson scored 16.

The Cavaliers are now 1-3 on the season.

After a bad start to the game, Cleveland started to pick up its defensive effort to get back in the game, but they couldn’t overcome the talented Hawks who are 4-0.

Atlanta missed its first three shot attempts, then made 13 of its next 15. At the end of the first quarter, the Hawks made 15 of 21 shots. Cavs head coach Byron Scott took two timeouts to stop the Hawks rhythm to no avail.
