Dayton Dragons starting pitcher Daniel Renken has been named the Midwest League’s Pitcher of the Week for the period of June 27-July 3.

A native of Orange, California, Renken had a record-tying start during the week. On June 29 against the Lansing Lugnuts, Renken struck out 14 batters in a row, including ten straight batters at one point of the game.

Renken’s 14 strikeouts matched the Dayton franchise record set by Josh Hall on August 7, 2001 vs. Cedar Rapids. Renken earned the win in the game, pitching six scoreless innings and allowing just two hits and one walk.

Renken also tied the all-time Midwest League record set in 1966 when he struck out 10 Lansing batters in a row starting with the last batter of the first inning and continuing through the last batter of the fourth inning. He became just the second pitcher in the 65-year history of the Midwest League to notch 10 strikeouts in succession and the first since May 22, 1966 when Art Groza of Burlington struck out 10 straight Dubuque batters.
