The Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 4-4, losing three of the last four games, missing several injured players on defense, struggling on defense and being next to last in the NFL in sacks with 12, decided to give Albert Haynesworth a chance to revive his career.

Haynesworth is happy to help the Bucs get back on track defensively.

The controversial, but talented 30-year-old defensive tackle practiced for the first time with his new team on Thursday. He did fare well with Washington and New England.

New England released him on Tuesday and Tampa Bay claimed him off waivers on Wednesday in time for preparations to play the Houston Texans this Sunday.

The Dayton Flyers 40-home game winning streak against non-conference opponents was snapped in a recent 73-68 loss to a good East Tennessee State team coach by Murray Bartow. Dayton’s last conference loss was to Vanderbilt on December 30, 2005, 63-60.

The Flyers saw their record fall to 5-2 overall after suffering their second straight loss of the season.

The Buccaneers, who have made two consecutive NCAA appearances, improve to 3-2 on the season, after picking up their first road win of the season.

ETSU senior Justin Tubbs led all scorers in the game with 26 points. The Bucs shot 47.9 percent from the field, including 40.9 from three-point range, while Dayton shot just 33.3 percent.

Despite a slow start in the game, Dayton came back to lead 38-33 at the half.

ETSU was up 17-3 with 14:54 to go in the first half  and 22-8 then went cold. The Flyers took advantage to go on an 18-0 run to go up 26-22 with 7:54 to go. The lead expanded to 36-27 on a fast break layup by Staten with 4:17 left until the break.
