Peters wins Camping World Truck race at Bristol

 

Timothy Peters is the winner of the 2012 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway last week.

Peters led all 204 laps at the track they call “The Paper Clip”.

Peters is the first driver to lead every lap in a Truck race at Bristol since Ron Hornaday Jr. in 1997.

It was his second win of the season and fifth overall.

Peters leads the season series standings by 17 points over James Buescher.

Cale Gale’s crash on lap 193 allowed Peters to easily pull away from his teammate Parker Klingerman on a green-white-checkered restart.

Peters and Kingerman are teammates with Red Horse Racing.

NASCAR’s Coca-Cola 600 won for third time by Kahne

Kasey Kahne drove to victory Sunday night in the Coca-Cola 600 in Concord, North Carolina.

It is the third win of his career in NASCAR’s longest race and the first as a driver for Hendrick Motorsports.

Kahne took the checkered flag almost five seconds ahead of Denny Hamlin. Kyle Busch finished third and Greg Biffle, the Sprint Cup points leader was fourth.

Kahne is the 16th Hendrick driver to win a race.

Kahne’s win also gave owner Rick Hendrick his 201st Sprint Cup series win.

Danica Patrick became the first woman to drive in the race since Janet Guthrie in 1976. Patrick was five laps down at the end of the race but finished 30th. It was her best finish in three career Sprint Cup races.

Danica’s next Sprint Cup race will be on August 25 at Bristol Motor Speedway,

Busch continues to win at Bristol Motor Speedway

Bristol Motor Speedway has always been one of Kyle Busch’s favorite tracks.

Busch earned his 10th career win at Bristol with a dominating run in the Nationwide Series race.

Busch led 266 of the 300 laps for his third Nationwide win at Bristol. He also has won four times in the Sprint Cup Series and three times in the truck series.

Busch has won the past four events at the track. He won all three races in August of 2010.

Kasey Kahne finished second, with Dale Earnhardt Jr. third, Elliott Sadler fourth and Joey Logano fifth.

NASCAR RACE #26 preview: Atlanta Motor Speedway, Hampton, Georgia with Denny Hamlin on the pole

After taking last weekend off, the NASCAR Sprint Cup series will get back to action tonight, September 5 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, in the Atlanta suburb of Hampton, located 30 miles from the downtown area.

The race will be televised by ESPN and starts at 7:30 p.m.

This will be the second time that the circuit has been to the Atlanta area. Race Number 4 back in March, the Kobalt Tools 500.

Atlanta Motor Speedway (NASCAR)

Atlanta Motor Speedway is a Quad-oval with a seating capacity of 113,000. The 500.5 mile race, the Emory Healthcare 500 will be run in 325 laps.

The frontstretch and the backstetch were swapped when the track was renovated in 1997 to become NASCAR’s fastest 1.5-mile track. The asphalt is banked 24 degrees in the turns.

Fireball Roberts won the first NASCAR event at Atlanta Motor Speedway, the 1960 Dixie 200.

Last year’s race was called the Pep Boys Auto 500 which featured the tracks’s first night-time Cup race, eight drivers led 17 of more laps. Kasey Kahne led the final 11 on the way to hia second win of the season. Kahne held off Kevin Harvick, who led 66 of the 325 laps. Juan Pablo Montoya, David Reutimann and Mark Martin also had top-five finishes.

Denny Hamlin is trying to shake off his mid-season slump and he showed some sign of coming out of it on Saturday by claiming the pole for the Emory Healthcare 500.

He will be followed by Ryan Newman, Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards and Tony Stewart.

Hamlin captured the eighth pole of his career and the 50th for Joe Gibbs Racing.

Hamlin has won five races this season, but it has almost three months since his last victory. He’s coming off a disappointing 34-th place finish at Bristol Motor Speedway and is fifth in the point standings and will be in The Chase which be starting at Richmond next week.

Failing to make the 43-car field were Todd Bodine, Landon Cassill, Jason Leffler and Scott Riggs.

Eventhough the NASCAR Sprint Cup has an open week, Kyle Busch made sure he stayed busy by participating in the trucks series race at Chicagoland.

Busch, by the way, did win again! He withstood two late challenges for the lead from Todd Bodine and hung on for a NASCAR Camping World truck series victory at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Illinois Friday night.

Todd Bodine finished second, with Ron Hornaday, Jr., third, Johnny Sauter fourth and Justin Lofton fifth.

Busch just came off of a fantastic week at Bristol Motor Speedway, where he won all three races.

He also has done well at Chicagoland in his career. Busch won the truck race at Chicagoland in 2009. He also has won a Sprint Cup and two Nationwide victories at the track.

Friday’s win was Busch’s fourth truck series win of the season and 20th of his career.

Todd Bodine leaves Joliet, Illinois with a 236-point lead in the trucks series over Aric Almirola, who finished sixth on Friday.
